"Thought Process"
Over seven thousand LED lights will be installed on every window of the entire Washington Street façade of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts. This exciting light sculpture, titled Thought Process, is one of the largest lighting projects of its kind in Berks County. Thought Process is comprised of thousands of tiny colored lights; by mixing the three colors in each light, multiple colors can be created, from single vibrant monochrome to an ever-changing light show. Initially, the lighting installation will have seven programs. Each semester, Kutztown University design students will develop new programs for the installation. The unveiling of this grand scale artwork will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, in conjunction with the GoggleWorks’ Third Anniversary Celebration Weekend.

This installation is a collaborative effort between artist Lyn Godley, Our City Reading, and GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, and is part of Reading’s “Entertainment Square”, which is funded through the State of Pennsylvania. Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #743 are volunteering their time and expense of materials to install the lights after their normal work hours, often working on the project between 3:30 and 8 pm and on weekends.
Thought Process is a lighting sculpture designed specifically for GoggleWorks and was designed, created and installed by Lyn Godley, a product designer and lighting artist who teaches design at Kutztown University and Parsons School of Design. With a MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, this award-winning published artist has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, the Denver Museum of Art, the Jewish Museum of Art, and Salone de Mobili-Milano, among others. She is also the three time winner of Excellence in Design, a Product Design Award from the Accent on Design Show in New York, New York.
GoggleWorks is excited to have this programmable LED display that will allow for different designs to be created throughout the year. The lights, visible from the street below, will add a sense of excitement and movement to “Entertainment Square”. This work-in-progress directly effects the revitalization of downtown Reading, and will create a positive and artistic atmosphere while brightening the streets and enhancing the exterior of the GoggleWorks. In addition, the unveiling of this exciting installation will be a visual complement to the GoggleWorks’ Third Anniversary and Celebration on September beginning 12, 2008.
