RiverPlace on the Schuylkill was founded in 2004 as a community-based grass-roots organization inspired by the belief that the power of the Schuylkill River could be a catalyst to unite communities and foster economic development.
Nearly 100 people participated in a three-day effort to imagine what might be possible.
Over 500 people from all walks of life helped create a common vision and master plan for both sides of the River, from Penn State Berks to Alvernia College, a place we call RiverPlace.
For the past four years a dedicated board and small staff have been holding that vision and working with many partners to make it a reality. We are now starting to see concrete results. There are new parks and trails in a great civic space, new attractions and festivals, and now new private investment creating exciting places to live, work and play.
RiverPlace is no longer just a dream; it’s now a place we can all enjoy. The power of the River has energized our community, and real positive change is taking place. We have focused the community’s attention, and now great things are happening.
You can learn about our progress in our annual report and on our web site. A great deal has happened, and there is still much to be done. We will continue to work every day at it, but we need your help to keep the momentum going. As a member-based non-profit organization, we rely on private contributions for the resources to keep pushing ahead. If you agree with what we’re doing, we hope you will join our growing list of individual and corporate supporters, and make a tax-deductible membership contribution to RiverPlace on the Schuylkill.
As a Member, you will enjoy the benefits described below, but you will also join with other individuals, families and corporate partners as an active participant in this effort that is using the magic of water to transform the heart of Berks County and its citizens.
