Master Plan

A major early focus of RiverPlace was the task of helping the community set down the dream of RiverPlace into a long-range economic opportunity and action plan. This "master plan" addresses safe parks, trails and open space, and also opportunities for museums, shops and cafes, revitalized neighborhoods, and vital downtown areas. Primary consultant for the plan was Sasaki Associates. For further information on Sasaki Associates, visit www.sasaki.com

The planning process revolves around intense efforts to involve the entire community in this discussion. Over 500 individuals have participated so far.  We invite you to join in.

Capturing the dreams of the entire community, the RiverPlace Master Plan is now complete.  A full color Executive Summary can be found on the RiverPlace web site at www.RiverPlacePA.com/master.htm.  The Summary includes information on the initial priority projects.  The Plan also proposes many projects phased over the next twenty years, coordinating with the Schuylkill River National Heritage Area plan, the Berks County Greenway, Parks, and Recreation Plan, and other local revitalization efforts like the Corridor initiative.
RiverPlace Development Corporation is now lining up implementation partners and funding sources to make the dream happen.  Volunteer are sought from the community to serve as project team members and leaders.

Funding the Plan The transformation of the heart of Berks will take a significant investment of time and resources.  Each project requires a project team and plan, and a specific identified list of funding resources.  RiverPlace will work to assemble and match likely funding to specific projects.  Each project will likely have multiple sources of funds, which might include grants, cash or in-kind contributions, loans, tax increment financing, and others.  Please contact us if you or your company or organization has an interest in being a part of this exciting community-based initiative

Master Plan - Complete

More than 500 community stakeholders met with
our consultant team, led by Sasaki Associates.  You told us what was
important to you and to the success of RiverPlace.

In addition to an overall greenway plan for parks and trails along the
Schuylkill and its tributaries, your input identified two areas for
concentrated effort:  Central Riverfront - between the Goggleworks
Center for the Arts and the Bingaman Street Bridge, and the Tulpehocken Confluence - from Stonecliff and Schuylkill Avenue to the Buttonwood Street Bridge.

The consultant team helped us create a
plan combining their vision with your suggestions and their experience.

What thoughts and dreams do YOU have for the
