Wi-Fi Hot Zone

Status:  In Design

We are working on creating a free Public Wireless Internet Hot Zone for the Central Riverfront area, covering both shores between the Bingaman and Buttonwood Street Bridges.

In the map above, the zone in red marks the intended area of coverage.

As the area around the Riverfront develops, and as the sites attract crowds of people, the availability of free Internet service in these locations will be a great boon to the neighboring communities. Faculty, students, local residents, as well as visitors will be able to access the Internet from their laptops, PDAs, or other wireless-capable devices.

A free and user-friendly registration process is planned for to help prevent abuse and control bandwidth. Upon login, each user will be greeted by a "gateway" splash page, which will host the logos of our sponsors and partners. From there, he or she will have total access to the Internet at speeds as high as broadband cable, depending on user traffic.
