Location: West side of the Miller Theater of the Reading Area Community College
Artist: Harry Bertoia; Bally, PA
Date: 1962
Material: bronze
Description: The artist was fascinated with forms found in nature and often imitated nature in his work. In this case, he used molten bronze poured into a sand mold. The bronze was allowed to form and shape itself without interference by the artist. The result resembles a naturally growing and branching plant. The surface has a chemically produced green patina. Some of this is washing away due to exposure. A professional hot wax treatment applied by a conservator would arrest this weathering.
