Description: Born on 1913 in New York City, Gerst began his career at 19 after receiving a scholarship to the Art Student's League. He graduated from Pratt Institute and studied with Chiam Gross at the New School. Moving to Glen Oley Farms in Reading, his first major steel constructions were installed at the George School, Newton, NJ, and the Jewish Community Center in Reading.
