El Mercado

El Mercado is a proposed Riverfront public market that integrates and unifies the entire Greater Reading community by providing not only food and other merchandise shopping opportunities, but also a community center where these visitors and customers can get to know the various cultures that comprise our community.

El Mercado will have catalytic effect. In the typical urban process of innovation and specialization, a public market can attract related businesses or businesses that share similar customers.

Status:

El Mercado is in the development stage. It is seeking funding to move the project into a “pilot” phase. The exact location of the market has yet to be determined; however several locations are under consideration.
